Smells are important; they make indelible impressions and form lasting memories that can stick around for a lifetime (especially meaningful on your wedding day). Imagine the impact when the olfactory converges with the gustatory to create a sublime experience. Consider the idea of turning a beautiful, sexy fragrance into an aphrodisiac-inducing cocktail, one that you can share with your wedding guests and more importantly your future mate.
That was the notion for the potions recently served up at a guided fragrance flight at MiN New York's apothecary in Manhattan for an installment in one of their Rituals Series—Journey of The Senses: Aphrodisiacs. Vice President Mindy Yang presented five incredible niche perfumes that she hand-selected for their sensual qualities, with notes like black pepper, tobacco, patchouli, amber and cardamom.
I spoke to Yang about her thoughts on scents and here's what she shared, "Fragrance is quite a part of our existence, isn't it? These invisible, magical molecules create, transcend and often complete the experience of a beautiful moment for me. They help me recall people, moments, and places. I have quite a love affair with scents. To me, perfumes are necessary accessories; I'm not ever fully dressed without one."
Each of the artisan perfumes were transformed into amazing bespoke cocktails by master mixologist and Fabulous Friend, Yusef Austin. Austin has spent the last 12 years traveling the globe, stirring up the most cutting-edge, seriously delicious cocktails at the hippest parties and weddings.
Here is a recipe from that night, based on a scent that incorporates tobacco and ripe raspberry (how deliciously sexy):
THE SCENT: Back to Black, by Kilian
ELEMENTS & INSPIRATIONS: Tobacco. Chamomile laced with honey. Ripe raspberry. Patchouli. Almond and vanilla. Cardamom, coriander, vetiver and moss. "A velvet smooth burning liquid umber, that stretches out languorously on the skin for hours."
THE DRINK:
1 1/2 oz. Anejo tequila
1 oz. vodka infused with cardamom and nutmeg
3/4 oz. chamomile honey
1/2 oz. fresh lime juice
Cilantro sprig
Shake and strain into a wine glass filled with crushed ice. Garnish with cilantro sprig. Sip with a silver straw.

Michigan Weddings Cocktail Hour

The Bar is Open!
With on site ceremony's becoming so ever popular these days nothing sets the tone better than a open layout for a cocktail reception after the ceremony. Be sure to have a well appointed bar with plenty of manpower to keep the drinks coming. Mr Bartender recommends two bartenders for wedding receptions immediately following ceremonies to get a drink in your guests hands as quickly as possible. Standing in line following a beautiful ceremony for a beverage says more about waiting than mingling and is a definite mood killer. Create a open area for the bar along with 2 or more food stations nearby so that your guests can mingle and nibble while they wait for the reception to begin. Mr Bartender also suggest having servers to greet your guests with a glass of champagne or signature cocktail at the door to help decrease bottlenecks at the door and at the bar. Have some high top tables set up near the center of the room to encourage mingling and give your guests a place to set there cocktails down at. Having Mr Bartender servers also will keep the area clean and free from bottles and glasses along with passing some of your scrumptious appetizers! This will set the ambiance for the entire wedding reception! Add a little music to mingle by and we say success!
